Open to: All teachers and librarians.
Opportunity at a Glance: The NYCDOE Writers in Schools Program pairs an LGBTQ author with students to discuss an author’s book. Teachers apply for the program and will be awarded a set of books and an in-person or Skype visit from the author for up to 40 students. After teachers are admitted to the program they will be given a list of potential authors and books to choose from. All costs for the author and the books are covered by the NYCDOE/Lambda Literary Foundation partnership. Visits can be a class read, a literature circle, or book club, with 1 – 40 students. School staff admitted to the program will be asked to attend a full-day professional development session focused on including LGBTQ themes into curriculum.
Key dates: This opportunity is on-going.
Application deadline: Friday, January 13, 2017; priority will be given to early applicants.
