Exploring Ways that Predetermined Narratives are Formed

Open to: All teachers.

Opportunity at a Glance: In “The Danger of a Single Story,” participants will use an excerpt from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s TED Talk of the same name to reflect on the ways in which we form predetermined narratives (or, “stories”) about one another, and how these “stories” impact learning and educational equity. This activity also gives participants the opportunity to deep-dive into Danielson Framework for Teaching Component 1b: Demonstrating Knowledge of Students, and to explore the ways in which strong practice in Component 1b can bolster strong practice in Component 2a: Creating an Environment of Respect and Rapport.
