Opportunity at a Glance: The Afterschool Reading Club (ARC) is a shelter-based literacy enrichment program. In the 2015-16 school year, 33,000 NYC public school students were living in homeless shelters. As leaders of an Afterschool Reading Club, teachers engage students in reading experiences, provide homework help, facilitate arts, and engage with parents and families. The program is open to K-5 students in 18 shelters as a 3-day per week after school program. Per session is available.
Key dates: Training begins in late September. As a leader of an ARC, your responsibilities will begin in October and run through June, 2018.
