Exploring HS Science teaching Practices that Support the New Standards

Open to: Teachers teaching a high school elective (i.e. non-Regents, non-AP) science course in the Spring 2018 semester.

Opportunity at a Glance: This institute is structured as a professional learning community, requiring active participation in sessions as well as approximately 3 hours of planning time before each session for sessions 2-5. Participation in this institute will help teachers begin to transition their practice to meet the intent of the new NYS Science Learning Standards while the 1996 MST standards remain in effect for Regents courses.  Explore the conceptual and instructional shifts called for by the new standards, design and implement a storyline-based unit for courses that meet one or more Performance Expectations from the new standards, and engage in professional learning modules introducing the new standards with the goal of presenting these modules to their school colleagues. This institute is CTLE-eligible.
