Support English Language Learners Using Generative Vocabulary Instruction

Open to: Elementary school teachers.

Opportunity at a Glance: Dr. Hiebert will present her latest research focusing specifically on generative vocabulary instruction for English language learners that helps students develop the ability to apply knowledge of how words work when encountering new words. Leave the event with several strategies that you can use in your own instruction. The day will begin with a reading and discussion with Young Adult author, Jewell Parker Rhodes, who has written Towers Falling, Bayou Magic, Sugar, Ninth Ward, and many more. Participants will receive several of Jewell Parker Rhodes’ books. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
