Helping ELLs Transform Academic Discussion into Academic Writing

Open to: Middle school and high school teachers, ENL teachers.

Opportunity at a Glance: In this workshop, Lydia Stack will share tools teachers can use to meet the individual speaking and writing needs of English Language Learners (ELLs). Students learn to write by engaging in academic conversations that lead to academic writing. Teachers will also explore new ways to implement the talking process so that it fosters academic conversations that lead to writing solid supported arguments. Teachers will leave the day with a stronger grasp of many strategies such as “Stronger and Clearer”, “Argument Balance Scale’, “Two Sides of the Argument” and “Writing Collaborative Arguments” which they will be able to try in their classrooms. Breakfast will be available from 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Please arrive early to register and have breakfast.
