Opportunity at a Glance: Once a school shares common language to discuss engagement, educators may elicit desired levels of student engagement through rigorous lessons which call for high-order thinking. Look at “Engaging students with Minds-On Participation” to explore how different activities and assignments may invite students to actively engage with material. You’ll also get the chance to design an assignment or activity that promotes active student intellectual engagement through jumpstarting engagement through pre-writing.
As a reminder, teachers have access to 70 Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) eBook titles. One title that connects to building a culture for learning is Engaging Minds in the Classroom: The Surprising Power of Joy (Book 22, page 14).
