Open to: High School science teachers.
Opportunity at a Glance: The 2018-19 High School Science Institute is a professional learning community of teachers across the City. High school teachers from any science discipline who participate in this five session opportunity, will have the opportunity to engage in an applied book study, 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Task-Based Discussions in Science.
The 5 Practices is a routine that helps students make sense of the science in cognitively demanding tasks through carefully designed discussion. The teachers in the institute will experience and practice using the 5 Practices prior to implementing their learnings in their own classrooms. Your learning will grow and connect between sessions. Therefore, registrants should plan to attend all five sessions throughout the school year and make time for approximately 1.5 hours of planning time before each session.
