Apply for the Sixth Grade Weather and Airplanes Professional Learning Institute

Open to: Middle School teachers.

Opportunity at a Glance: Sixth grade teachers, or any middle school teacher whose curriculum includes a weather unit, are invited to apply for the Weather and Airplanes Professional Learning Institute. During this two-day program at the NYC Center for Aerospace and Applied Mathematics (NYCCAAM), participants will discover how to integrate inquiry based activities and performance tasks into their weather unit and how to support effective disciplinary literacy practices in the science classroom. Participating teachers are required to bring at least one class to NYCCAAM for a free class field trip to collect data for their performance task. Participants will receive free classroom materials and a per diem substitute reimbursement for the school.

Institute dates: Tuesday, December 18, and Thursday, January 10, 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Location: 220 Henry St, New York, NY 10002.

Application deadline: Thursday, November 8.

Take action: Talk to your principal about time out of the classroom, have your principal complete and sign the Letter of Support, then apply by the deadline.
