Chancellor’s PD Day: Uncovering LGBTQ History at the Brooklyn Navy Yard

Open to: All teachers.

Opportunity at a Glance: This professional development workshop designed for elementary, middle, and high school classroom teachers will use our collection of oral histories to explore gender and sexual identity through a historical lens. Hugh Ryan, scholar, curator, and author of the recently released book “When Brooklyn was Queer” will join us as we use the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a case study for exploring social history, oral history, and identity with your students. We’ll also provide a workshop on introducing LGBTQ topics in your classroom, no matter the age of your students. Cost: $35. Lunch and breakfast will be served. CTLE is available.

Key dates: Thursday, June 6, 2019, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Location: BLDG 92, Brooklyn Navy Yard, 92 Flushing Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205.
