APPLY FOR THE HISTORY BY DESIGN PROGRAM

Open to: Middle school teachers.

Opportunity at a Glance: Apply to participate in a year-long program called History by Design. Each participating school will create their own after-school club run by two teachers—one of whom must be a social studies teacher—for students in grades 6, 7, and/or 8. The after-school club, or ‘Curator Crew,’ will meet weekly and engage students in learning about history, social studies, and the arts while going on trips to partnering cultural institutions. Participating teachers will attend four full-day professional learning sessions that will take place on school days at different cultural institutions to dive deeper into the social studies practices and learn how cultural institutions can complement their instruction and facilitation of their after-school club. Teachers and their students will go on four field trips to cultural institutions to support their Curator Crew’s culminating project—designing an exhibit that the Curator Crew will present at the spring Culminating Exhibition.

Program length: October 2019 – June 2020.
