Biochemistry in Elementary STEM: Modeling Strategies for Grades K-5

Open to: STEM teachers grades K-5. 

Opportunity at a Glance: In this introductory workshop, participants will become familiar with chemistry topics like using the periodic table to predict atomic properties, modeling chemical bonding, and interpreting chemical structures to find their function. The goal is to provide elementary school teachers with exciting, age-appropriate tools to connect foundational chemistry to the worlds of biology, materials science, and environmental science. The workshop includes animated visualizations, model building activities, and PyMol, a free software used to model enzymes, DNA, and RNA. Cost: $19.99.
