Open to: Middle School Teachers, High School Teachers
Opportunity at a Glance: Support multilingual learners with a session where Lydia Stack will share practical tools teachers can use to meet students’ individual speaking and writing needs. Students learn to write by engaging in academic conversations that lead to academic writing (Zwiers, 2013). We will explore ways to foster academic conversations that lead to writing solid supported arguments and extended pieces of writing. Award-winning ‘storyman’ and Brooklyn native, Neal Shusterman, will intrigue us with his dystopian thrillers with the Arc of a Scythe series and Challenger Deep as well as humoring us with The Schwa Was Here. Cost: FREE. This opportunity is eligible for CTLE credits.
