Amanda Gorman’s Inaugural Poem: Rhetoric, Identity & Embodiment – A Two-Session Master Class with Brenda Jo Brueggemann (CTLE credits available)

Open to: Full-time PreK-12 Classroom Teachers
Opportunity at a Glance: On January 20, 2021, Amanda Gorman electrified the world with her performance of “The Hill We Climb.”  During this two session Master Class participants will do the following:

  1. Situate the poem amongst past inaugural poems;
  2. Examine her use of metaphors, both familiar and strange; and
  3. Study her embodied delivery.

Our exploration will lead us to a fuller understanding of the power of rhetoric. In the first session, teachers will learn from Brueggemann. In the second, participants exchange ideas with other brilliant teachers.

Participants will complete a small amount of homework for each session.

This program is free for public and charter school teachers. Participants will be selected by application and nomination.
