Discover NYC Grassland Ecosystems

Open to: K-8th Grade STEM Teachers
Opportunity at a Glance: Ecosystems and habitats, including grasslands, are a standard part of science curricula.  But most curricula teach about grasslands in the Great Plains or the African Savannah.  Many of us do not realize that there are grasslands right here in New York City. During this 5-lesson series participants will learn how to connect students to grassland ecosystems in their own backyard by learning about Freshkills Park, an 800-acre human-created grassland ecosystem on Staten Island.
