Opportunity at a Glance: School libraries play a VITAL and unique role in students’ growth and development by establishing a third space for students to inquire, create, learn, explore, and thrive. Through VITAL Libraries (Vital, Instructional, Transformative, Accessible, Learning Libraries), the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Library Services will work with school leaders to grow, strengthen, and re-imagine the function, purpose, identity, and potential of libraries in high-need environments such as Community Schools.

Two winning schools will be awarded up to $50,000!
