Open to: Childhood/Elementary Teachers
Opportunity at a Glance: Emotional literacy – the ability to name, manage, and productively express our feelings and to empathize with the feelings of others – is a skill too often neglected in the traditional teaching model. This course outlines how elementary school teachers can normalize vulnerability in the classroom and weave emotional literacy instruction into language arts curricula through work-sharing protocols, brainstorming strategies, interactive read-aloud techniques, reading responses, and more. The techniques introduced here can be easily integrated into existing reading and writing curricula and adapted to meet the needs of a wide range of learners.
