Teaching History Through Film and Media Series: Norman Lear’s Impact on American Culture

Opportunity at a Glance: The Teaching History through Film and Media seminar series models strategies for teachers to use film and video effectively in the classroom.  This session focuses on the work of TV Great Norman Lear.

Participants during this professional learning opportunity will do the following: 

  • Learn about periods and events in history through clips of movies as they develop strategies to use the films in their classrooms;
  • Explore themes, content, and historical accuracies and inaccuracies in the Hollywood interpretations of history; and
  • Examine how the time at which the film was made affected the value systems depicted in the movies.
