Censorship and Fighting for Intellectual Freedom Yesterday and Today

Opportunity at a Glance: Join the conversation about the current rise in censorship and book bans, historical precedents, and what teachers and librarians can do to protect intellectual freedom.

Former American Library Association (ALA) president Emily Drabinski, Assistant Commissioner for Libraries Lauren Moore, YA librarian Ricci Yuhico, historian Emily Brooks, and CES Director Brian Jones will discuss how recent attempts to censor schools and libraries affect educators and students.

Educators in attendance will be invited to explore one of our newest curriculum guides on censorship and the freedom to read.

Eligible NYS teachers will receive 2 hours of CTLE credit.
