Speaking of Language: Latinidad, Identity and Self-Perception

Open to: ENL Teachers
Opportunity at a Glance: Latinx students can experience a wide range of emotions—ranging from deep cultural pride to feelings of alienation—when thinking about themselves in relation to their languages.  Join The New York Public Library’s Center for Educators and Schools (CES) for a conversation about language, identity, self-perception, and cultural belonging.

Dr. Lori Gallegos will discuss the complex relationship between language and Latinidad, how language speakers navigate feelings of shame and pride about their linguistic heritage, and the role educators play in supporting multilingual students.

Eligible NYS teachers will receive 1 hour of CTLE credit.
