Explore the Fascinating Story of Belle da Costa Greene, the Morgan’s First Director

Open to: All Teachers
Opportunity at a Glance: Join us online for a Professional Development workshop on our upcoming exhibition Belle da Costa Greene: A Librarian’s Legacy.

Greene was one of the most prominent librarians in American history.  She was the daughter of Richard T. Greener, the first Black graduate of Harvard College. After her parents separated her mother changed the family name to Greene, Belle adopted the middle name da Costa, and the family began to pass as white in a segregated America.

Museum educators will share standards-aligned lessons and participants will leave with practical strategies for incorporating exhibition content into classroom lessons to support and supplement the curriculum.
