STEM teachers working on a project together

Engage Middle School students in Heat Transfer with Inquiry, Discourse, and Claim, Evidence, Reasoning (CER)

Open to: STEM teachers.

Opportunity at a Glance: Engage in a series of strategies to address middle school performance expectations related to heat transfer and phase changes (MS-PS1-4, MS-PS3-4), and apply concepts of particle theory and energy to these content areas. We will introduce phenomenon-based teaching and student representational thinking through white-boarding, discourse, guided inquiry, and claim, evidence, reasoning (CER). Relevance will be explored through a real student project – Design a building exterior minimizing heat transfer from air (MS-PS3-3). Science Practices and the Cross Cutting Concepts of “Systems and System Models” and “Energy and Matter” will be addressed. Cost: $19.99. CTLE is available for this session.

Key dates: Sunday, December 8, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
