Open to: Elementary and Middle School Teachers
Opportunity at a Glance: The Orton-Gillingham method of teaching decoding, spelling, and handwriting is a multisensory approach that has been used successfully with children who experience difficulty learning these skills. During this course participants are trained in the Orton-Gillingham techniques and will translate high-interest comprehension activities into literacy programs. This is a fast-paced, highly structured class intended for experienced educators.
One in-person section and one online section are available. The in-person section will be held at Mary McDowell Friends School in Brooklyn. The online section requires asynchronous work.
Key dates:
In-Person: Tuesday through Friday
- June 28 – July 1 from 9:00a.m. – 5:00p.m. EST
Online: Sunday through Wednesday **two sessions per day
- August 21 – 24 from 9:00a.m. – 12:00p.m. EST and
- August 21 – 24 from 6:00p.m. – 9:00 p.m. EST
Location: In-Person: 23 Sidney Place, Brooklyn, NY 11201; Online: No physical meeting place
