Incorporating Student Ideas into the Study of Earth Science with Curriculum Topic Study

Open to: 6–8 Grade Teachers
Opportunity at a Glance: In this two-day online session, teachers will examine research on teaching and learning related to the theory of plate tectonics using a systematic approach called Curriculum Topic Study (CTS). 

During this two-day workshop teachers will do the following:

  • Improve their own understanding of the theory of plate tectonics while learning how to work with commonly held ideas students bring to their learning; and
  • Utilize virtual and onsite museum resources to plan a field trip that integrates and values the ideas that learners bring into a learning experience.

This two-day session is free and offers 5 hours of CTLE credits upon completion.
