New York Public Library: Visualizing the Violence of Residential Schools

Open to: All Teachers/All Educators
Opportunity at a Glance: Join the Center for Educators & Schools in a conversation about the violence of residential schools in the US and Canada in the 19th and 20th centuries.

During this workshop participants will examine photographs of Sioux children entering a residential school and compare them with photographs of their forced assimilation three years later. Together, the photographs will open up valuable discussions about the historic wrongs and the necessary contemporary reparative work we can take part in.

We will also explore approaches to utilizing these photographs in your classrooms.

Participating teachers will receive 1 credit hour of CTLE credit.
