Open to: Common Branch and Content Area Teachers in Grades 3-12
Opportunity at a Glance: Developing English language learners (ELLs) are students who have received English as a new language (ENL) services for 4 and 6 years in New York. In NYC Public Schools, 44% of Developing ELLs were born in the United States and nearly 80% are at the Advanced Transitioning and Expanding English proficiency levels. As a result, Developing ELLs often “blend in” with their non-ELL peers and may miss out on the key supports that they need in their content area classes. This series will address those critical supports by focusing exclusively on the unique needs of Developing ELLs and exploring cross-cutting and content specific practices.
