Educator Workshop—Interactions and Trade from Byzantium to Africa

Open to: Grades K-12 Educators
Opportunity at a Glance: Explore the exhibition Africa and Byzantium with Assistant Curator Andrea Myers Achi, along with Met educators, and consider North African works of art in a stunning array of media: frescoes, jewelry, metalwork, panel paintings, mosaics, illuminated manuscripts, and more. Discuss and examine the relationship of these works to Byzantine art and history on a broader scale, as well as to the work of contemporary artists.  In addition, consider the role that maps and other information graphics can play in conveying and complicating historical narratives.
