Open to: All K – 8th Grade Teachers
Opportunity at a Glance: Many Multilingual Learners (MLLs)/English Language Learners (ELLs) experience difficulty in mathematics. This difficulty is attributed to the following: inexperience with mathematical concepts and procedures, limited exposure to mathematical vocabulary, and little opportunity to engage with the language of mathematics. This three-part professional learning series will do the following:
1)Showcase the ways to provide explicit learning opportunities for MLLs/ELLs to learn the language of mathematics when providing tiered mathematical support; and
2) Provide teachers with tools to help ML/ELLs improve their mathematical vocabulary knowledge and word-problem skill within a multitiered system of supports (MTSS) framework.
