Spotted Lanternfly Invasion: Engaging in Citizen Science and Bringing Natural History into the Classroom

Open to: K–12 Grade Teachers
Opportunity at a Glance: During this two-day session, participants will learn about the following:

  • Spotted lanternfly life cycle;
  • Lanternfly Life Cycle in the U.S.; and
  • Lanternfly’s interaction with select plant species

We will also introduce techniques for basic spotted lanternfly specimen collecting and preparation. Finally, we will use citizen science observation data to look for trends, and brainstorm how to engage our students and school communities in monitoring and reporting invasive species.

This session is free and offers CTLE credits upon completion.
