Open to: Math and English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher Teams
Opportunity at a Glance: This fully virtual, 3 day professional learning series is designed for secondary math and English as a New Language (ENL) teachers to examine the language demands of mathematical text by unpacking the Core Academic Language Skills (CALS). During this learning series participants will develop an understanding for the constellation of skills that correspond to linguistic features common in academic texts, yet rare in everyday conversations (e.g., logical indicators that connect ideas such as therefore, conversely, such that, etc.) that provide equitable and accessible math instruction for multilingual learners (MLs) and English language learners (ELLs).
In addition, participants will have an opportunity to reflect on their learning and enhance their curriculum.
