Celebrating Emancipation: Teaching Black Liberation with NYPL Archives

Opportunity at a Glance: Join the Center for Educators & Schools as we roll out exciting curricular resources about the celebration of emancipation In New York. Examine a primary document to learn about Black liberation and Black joy.

During this session participants will do the following:

  • Take a close look at An Oration on the Abolition of the Slave Trade, a speech by George Lawrence, a Black abolitionist, who was commemorating the fifth anniversary of the end of the international slave trade; and
  • Provide approaches to utilizing this content through topics such as celebration, and age-diverse pedagogical techniques.

Participating teachers will receive 1 credit hour of CTLE credit.
