Developing Critical Language Awareness in Bilingual Writers

Open to: Bilingual Teachers, Providers, and Coaches –  Grades K-5
Opportunity at a Glance: This 4-day hybrid professional learning series, in collaboration with Dr. Vanessa Santiago Schwarz, will focus on Genre-based pedagogy, a language-centered framework for writing instruction that supports the development of critical language awareness and biliteracy in MLs/ELLs, through participants’ engagement in an in-depth look at persuasive writing genre and the language of this genre.
Key dates: 

  • In-Person: Thursday October 27 from 9:00a.m. – 3:00p.m.;
  • Location TBD: Thursday November 10 from 1:00p.m. – 2:30p.m.;
  • Virtual Synchronous Session: Thursday December 1 from 1:00p.m. – 2:30.p.m.; and
  • Virtual Synchronous Session Thursday December 8 from 1:00p.m. – 2:30p.m.
