Lighthouse Collaborative Visit: PS 9 Naples Street Elem. School: Utilizing a Balanced Math Approach to Develop Foundational and Conceptual Understanding

Open to: K-5 Grade Teachers, Coaches and Administrators
Opportunity at a Glance: During this Lighthouse Collaborative visit we will focus on how teachers plan and implement a balanced approach to teaching math that helps students develop fluency, automaticity, conceptual understanding, and problem solving skills.
This Lighthouse Collaborative visit will highlight the following:

  • Specific math components and their purposes, including when, how and why to use them.
  • A variety of pedagogical structures, including mental math mini-lessons, error analysis, gallery walks, workstations, and investigation and how they are used.
  • The relationship between assessment and instructional decision making.
  • Methods for unpacking and integrating standards across grade levels.
