Opportunity at a Glance: As National Poetry Month quickly approaches, what better way to immerse your students in science content than by writing poems in class? This creative approach will improve literacy and science content knowledge by challenging students to consider complex concepts in novel ways. Based on the International Ocean Discovery Program’s Expedition 392 Haiku project, this STEAM-centered workshop invites participants to explore the groundbreaking research of scientific ocean drilling, find inspiration in the halls of the museum, and collaborate to develop lessons that engage students in science through poetry.
