Opportunity at a Glance: Join the Tenement Museum and special guest author Clint Smith for a Professional Learning celebrating the publication of Smith’s new youth edition of How the Word is Passed: Remembering Slavery and How it Shaped America. During the professional learning session participants will do the following: 

  • Experience the Museum’s newest exhibit, A Union of Hope, about Joseph and Rachel Moore, a Black family living in Lower Manhattan tenements in the 1860s;
  • Explore Joseph and Rachel Moore’s daily life in a tenement community, and connect their story to the Civil War and Reconstruction in New York City;
  • Meet with Clint Smith for a conversation and Q+A on his new book and the work of engaging students in the complexity of history.

Every participant will receive a gift copy of the youth edition of How the Word is Passed, and be entered to win a free field trip.
