Opportunity at a Glance: On the eve of its 250th anniversary, this seminar will examine the Declaration of Independence and its national and global legacies. From the years immediately following 1776, the Declaration has served as a lodestar for activism and self-determination movements around the world, from abolitionism and women’s suffrage as well as an inspiration for declarations of independence in Haiti, Vietnam, and the former Eastern Bloc.
In addition, this seminar will explore how the Declaration, and its philosophical underpinnings, have made such a profound impact. Led by Professor David Armitage (Harvard University).
