Opportunity at a Glance: Join Kate Roberts for a discussion about the triumphs and troubles with both whole-class novels and independent reading and consider her practical framework for creating units that join both teaching methods together. She will share strategies for identifying skills needed, selecting whole-class texts, mapping out the timing of units, meeting individual students’ needs, and incorporating choice into the process. Paul Volponi will close the day discussing his writing of titles such as Black and White, The Final Four, Top Prospect, Rikers High and many more.
