Using Math Instructional Routines to Connect Math Practices and Content in the Algebra I Classroom

Opportunity at a Glance: During this two-day professional learning experience teachers will learn to use math instructional routines to engage diverse learners in critical Algebra 1 content.  Participants will also explore how the standards for mathematical practice both support students in building conceptual understanding and leveraging that understanding to accelerate learning.  See below for session details.

Session 1: Connecting Representations is an instructional routine designed to help students Look for and make use of structure (SMP 7).
Session 2: Decide and Defend is an instructional routine designed to help students construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others (SMP3).

Key dates:  Both sessions are from 1:30.p.m. – 3:30p.m.

  • Session 1: Wednesday February 22 and
  • Session 2: Thursday February 23
