Monitor Oysters in New York Harbor – Oyster Research Stations with Billion Oyster Project

Opportunity at a Glance: Oyster Research Stations (ORS) are structures that hang off of piers in New York Harbor, and that can be pulled up and observed by you and your students.  During this training participants will do the following: 

1) Learn how to collect data about oyster growth and biodiversity, and consider how to monitor an ORS in a way that meets your students’ needs.
2) Explore and model BOP’s accompanying free ORS lessons.
3) Connect and brainstorm with other teachers.

Additional Training Information:

  • Cost: $100 to cover the cost of supplies that you’ll take home, and is
  • FREE for teachers at Title 1 schools.
  • Participants will leave with next steps for signing up for an ORS site.
