America 250: The Battle of Brooklyn

Open to: NYCDOE Grades K-12 Educators (Teachers, Instructional Leads and Administrators)
Opportunity at a Glance: Join the NYC Social Studies and Civics Department along with the Center for Brooklyn History for a special professional learning opportunity.  During this professional learning opportunity participants will do the following:

  • Explore the landmark exhibit The Battle of Brooklyn: Fought and Remembered.
  • Learn about how the voices of the American Revolution connect to the present and help shape our understanding of history.
  • Unpack connections to our Passport to Social Studies, Civics for All, and Hidden Voices resources for classroom use.

The day will also include a brief walking tour of the area as we will visit historic sites related to our America 250 theme: Voices Then/Voices Now.
